The University at Buffalo Arts Collaboratory Healthcare Initiative welcomes visiting artist Jacqueline Donachie from Glasgow, Scotland for two free public film screenings on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 from 12:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. and Thursday, March 1 from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. Tickets are free and can be reserved on the Center for the Arts website.

Jacqueline Donachie connects the patient, researchers and scientists to take an in depth and very personal look at myotonic dystrophy, a genetic disorder characterized by a progressive weakening of the muscles and reduction of the ability to relax muscles after contraction that has affected Donachie’s family. Donachie has worked with a range of scientific and medical professionals in collaborative processes to produce new ideas and artworks that explore myotonic dystrophy and the effects of disability, care and loss. Donachie will show her films “Hazel” and “Tomorrow Belongs to Me” with a talkback. A meet the artist reception will follow the events.

Donachie received her PhD from Northumbria University and is part of a group of artists who helped establish Glasgow in the 1990s as one of the world's most dynamic contemporary art communities and has forged an international reputation for a socially-engaged art practice, with a particular interest in public space, healthcare and bio-medical research. Her doctoral studies examined the capacity for artworks to influence research and care in the field of genetics, continuing a long collaborative engagement with biomedical researchers in both Newcastle and Glasgow.
