An article in Scientific American about Bali’s Mount Agung, which has been rumbling since August and is now propelling ash thousands of feet into the atmosphere, prompting evacuations and halting flights into and out of the island’s international airport, quotes Tracy Gregg, associate professor of geology. “We don’t yet know if Agung is currently giving us two weeks, two months or two years (or more) of warning because we don’t know precisely what it did before its 1963 eruption,” she said.
