Overview

Professional Summary:

As a family medicine physician, my clinical practice focuses on both preventive care of patients of all ages and comprehensive care management of patients with multiple comorbidities. My residency training in an urban practice location enriched me with clinical experience with underserved patient populations in the city of Buffalo, and I continue to practice at the UBMD Family Medicine at Jefferson clinic with the goals of eliminating health care disparities and improving the health of underserved patients. I care for patients hospitalized at Buffalo General Medical Center (BGMC) and Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo (WCHOB). Working extensively in both hospital and ambulatory settings has equipped me with a wealth of experience and expertise in reinforcing continuity of care and seamless transition of care.

I have substantial training and strong interest in conducting research. I hold a master‘s degree in clinical pharmacology and a PhD in microbiology, and I have a track record of research work and publications in these fields. My current research interest is built on my belief that the essential role of a family physician is to practice evidence-based medicine in identifying risk factors, preventing diseases and managing the common medical problems of patients. Presently, my clinical research is focused on improving the health care of patients with chronic medical conditions, including obesity and diabetes. I am particularly interested in identifying quality gaps and assessing treatment efficacy in ambulatory care settings using pragmatic research and data-mining techniques. The overall goal of my research is to contribute to the evidence-based guidelines that reinforce the daily practice of primary care.

I enjoy all components of my faculty role including clinical practice, research and teaching. I supervise family medicine residents closely in the hospitals and precept medical students in the clinic. Medical students who are part of the student scholarship program and interested in clinical research also train with me. I am dedicated to medical education and equally committed to clinical care and research. I strive to integrate all three aspects of academic medicine to fulfill my passion for the trainees I mentor, the patients I care for and the research I conduct that advances human health.
