As a generalist, I provide a full spectrum of care. I take care of patients from late adolescence to post-menopause. I see patients who need contraceptive management, preventive healthcare exams, and menopausal therapy. I also encourage other non-traditional modalities to treat common conditions affecting females such as PMS/PMDD and menopausal conditions like hot flushes and night sweats. I monitor patients throughout their pregnancy. I enjoy taking care of patients with twins and co-morbid conditions that affect their pregnancy like chronic hypertension, pre-gestational and gestational diabetes, and endocrine diseases like hypothyroidism.
My research focus is on quality and health outcomes. I am a paid quality consultant to one of the local HMO’s and serve on the Quality Board of one of the largest health insurance companies in the region. I want to see how developments like the electronic health record affect patient care and quality. I am attending the Harvard University School of Public Health to earn a Master’s of Science in Health Care Management. This will enable me to use my knowledge and experience to help patients and provide better outcomes and quality.
As the residency program director, I am ultimately responsible for the successful promotion and completion of residents so they can enter the work force as competent obstetrician/gynecologists. I am in charge of 36 residents and I supervise them in their continuity clinic, bedside rounds, and on labor and delivery. I also give didactic presentations and hold regular meetings to go over any issues regarding their professional development. I hold out of hospital/work gatherings to get a sense of their concerns and expectations. My hope is that when a residents graduate, they are competent medically and surgically, and more importantly show compassion and empathy to the patients they serve.
