Between the ages of 13 and 15, it's recommended that teens have their first visit to the gynecologist.

The visit helps to establish a good patient-physician relationship, discuss healthy behaviors and address any concerns that may be common at that age, such as painful or irregular periods.

Lisa Jane Jacobsen, MD, MPH, MSHPEd is a general obstetrician and gynecologist and a fellowship-trained pediatric and adolescent gynecologist with UBMD Obstetrics & Gynecology. Dr. Jacobsen is also the associate dean of medical curriculum at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo, and an associate professor.

Dr. Jacobsen sees patients on the downtown Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus at the Conventus medical office building.
