Jeffrey J. Thompson, a native of Western New York, joined the faculty of emergency medicine upon completion of his residency in 2008. He completed his medical school and residency training through the SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, serving as chief resident during his final year.
As a clinician, Dr. Thompson works in the emergency departments at the Buffalo General Medical Center and ECMC. Prior to this appointment he worked full-time for Professional Emergency Services at the Millard Fillmore hospitals. Through his work at Millard Fillmore Gates, he developed an interest in neurological emergencies, specifically stroke and TIA management and observation. He is also interested in public health, primarily as it relates to disease prevention and resource utilization. He is passionate about international medical missions, and has served on multiple overseas medical mission trips. From January to December 2018 he served with World Medical Mission as ER Director at MCM General Hospital and Myungsung Medical College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and continues his educational and research involvement through regular return visits.
Dr. Thompson greatly enjoys medical education, a passion he discovered during residency. This led him to become actively involved in the Emergency Medicine residency program where he is currently one of the Associate Program Directors. In 2012 he completed the Physician Educator course through UB and the Royal College of Physicians, and is currently embarking upon a Masters degree in medical education.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Thompson maintains an active second "career" as a professional musician. He is a church organist in East Aurora, and performs as a tenor soloist in concert, oratorio, and opera throughout western New York.
