Sleep is a foundation of health that affects every aspect of our lives. For children preparing to go back to school, getting the right amount of sleep can be a struggle – and an even bigger challenge for parents trying to get the kids off to bed earlier.

To help, physicians with UBMD Pediatrics’ Division of Pulmonology & Sleep will be hosting a webinar on August 18 at 1 p.m., sharing back-to-school sleep tips and will discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on sleep for school children.

Presenters Amanda Hassinger, MD, MS and Alberto Monegro, MD are pediatric sleep medicine physicians and run the UBMD Pediatrics Sleep Medicine Center and Lab. Both physicians are faculty members of the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and Dr. Monegro is also a physician with UBMD Internal Medicine.

As an essential building block for children’s mental and physical health, insufficient sleep can lead to irritability and lack of focus, as well as learning and behavioral problems.

Further, prolonged sleep issues could indicate an underlying physical or emotional concern that needs additional evaluation.
