Professional Summary:

Dr. Kara Kelly is the Waldemar J. Kaminski Endowed Chair of Pediatrics and Professor of Oncology at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and Division Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Oishei Children’s Hospital and the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo where she also is a Professor of Pediatrics. A pediatric oncologist with expertise in the care of children and adolescents with leukemia and lymphoma, Dr. Kelly chaired the Hodgkin lymphoma committee for the Children’s Oncology Group from 2011-2022. In this role, she oversaw the development and conduct of a large portfolio of clinical trials and correlative studies aimed at improving the care of children and adolescents with Hodgkin lymphoma through the integration of novel therapeutic strategies. Dr. Kelly remains active in this area, co-chairing a large phase 3 clinical trial comparing standard chemotherapy with a novel immunotherapy approach for children and adults with early stage Hodgkin lymphoma. Dr. Kelly is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Lymphoma Research Foundation where she has focused on improving outcomes in adolescents and young adults with lymphoma. Dr. Kelly’s research interests also extend to pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia where she has been a long standing member of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute ALL Consortium, and leads studies investigating nutrition related factors contributing to treatment toxicity as well as development of interventions to improve adherence to oral chemotherapy.
