I am a Family Physician and clinician educator with a strong belief that excellence in health care requires curiosity, understanding of the scientific underpinnings of medicine, respect for all patients, and ability to nurture relationships with patients, families, and colleagues. I was drawn to Family Medicine because of the challenge of deciphering undifferentiated complaints and working with people over time. Patients in the rural, suburban, and urban settings where I've worked have taught me about the strengths and gaps in our health care system and also about the resilience and strengths of people.

My career started as a clerkship coordinator at the Jacobs School, followed by 29 years as the inaugural leader and Designated Institutional Official in the Office of Graduate Medical Education. During that time, I worked on accreditation, NY State GME policy, started a partnership with the Royal College of Physicians in London that evolved into the Jacobs Educator Excellence Program, implemented the Generalists Scholars Program that provides fourth year medical students with a continuity clinic and preview of residency training, and supported the establishment of the GME Ombudsman position at the Jacobs School. I also directed the Mini Medical School, a lecture series for members of the community, that promoted understanding of medical science and health conditions.

I now have the rewarding role of coaching a block of students in the Well-Beyond Curriculum and serving as a lead coach for the Heron Neighborhood. Supporting students as they adjust to the demands of medical school and envision their lives as future physicians, as well as teaching fundamental skills of interviewing and physical exam, is a capstone of my career.
