He earned Masters and PhD degrees at University of Cairo, Egypt. Dr. Mazen then joined the faculty at Cairo University.
He completed his cornea fellowship at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York. Dr. Mazen is a fellow of The Royal college of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, UK. Dr. Mazen joined the faculty at the University at Buffalo/Ross Eye Institute in January 2020
