Cataract & Refractive Surgery

Cataracts are formed when the crystalline lens inside the eye becomes opaque. When symptoms of cataracts are present, they can include vision that is cloudy, blurry, foggy or filmy; progressive nearsightedness in older people often called “second sight” because they may no longer need glasses; changes in the way you see color because the discolored lens acts as a filter; problems driving at night such as glare from oncoming headlights; problems with glare during the day; double vision; and sudden changes in glasses prescription.

Treatment of cataracts involves surgical removal and replacement with an intraocular lens (IOL). The surgery can be performed in an ambulatory surgery center or hospital.

Cornea

The cornea is the transparent outer layer at the front of the eye. It is positioned directly in front of the iris and pupil allowing light to enter the eye. Infections and disease are common conditions that require seeing an optometrist or ophthalmologist for diagnosis and care. While infections related to contact lenses, abrasions from trauma, and inflammation are common, they do require treatment. Additional corneal diseases include keratoconus, Fuchs’ endothelial dystrophy, pterygia, and many others. Our experienced team of ophthalmologists are available for consultation and continued care.

Retina & Uveitis

The retina is a layer of cells that covers the inner surface of the back of your eye. It converts light that enters your eye into a nerve signal that sends an image to your brain and allows you to see.  Common retina conditions that our experienced providers can diagnose and treat can be related to systemic disease such as hypertension and diabetes, infection, inflammation, and genetic disease.

Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus

Pediatric ophthalmology is a subspecialty in ophthalmology dedicated to treating eye disease in children such as eye muscle misalignment (strabismus), cataract, amblyopia (lazy eye), glaucoma, and refractive error. Our providers provide comprehensive care for infants and children.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a chronic disease of the optic nerve, usually caused by increased intraocular pressure (IOP). Occasionally, glaucoma can present acutely with a sudden increase in IOP due to drainage angle closure. The first sign of glaucoma is often the loss of peripheral or side vision, which can go unnoticed until late in the disease. Detecting glaucoma early can save patients from losing vision permanently.
