Emergency Medicine

We are open for business and ready to care for any patients with emergent or urgent needs.

If you have symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and are not sick, please call your primary doctor as we currently do NOT have the capacity to test well patients coming to ED.

If you have symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and are experiencing shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, altered mental status or other life threatening conditions, please seek care.

Our Emergency Department at Oishei Children's Hospital (OCH) has an annual volume of more than 45,000 pediatric patients under the age of 21 and is the tertiary referral center for pediatric subspecialty care. We are the Level 1 ACS-accredited Pediatric Trauma Center servicing all 12 counties of Western New York. Our Division of Emergency Medicine operates the Kids Express Program (Fast Track Clinic) during the busiest shifts (11 a.m. to 11 p.m.) to facilitate the care of less seriously ill and injured patients.

Our faculty physicians supervise the child-friendly emergency department 24 hours a day in our free-standing children's hospital providing pediatric-focused nursing, radiology services, child life, and social work.

Our division provides medical input for the pediatric component of paramedics functioning in Western New York and operates a pediatric stabilization and transport program.

A qualified and diverse staff offers emergency services, including:

  • Stabilization and treatment of critically injured pediatric patients
  • Emergency care to pediatric and adolescent children
  • Treatment of pediatric patients referred from primary physicians
  • STAT team emergency ground or air transport for critically ill or injured pediatric patients throughout Western New York
